Template-free synthesis of lignin-derived 3D hierarchical porous carbon for supercapacitors

A facile synthesis strategy for lignin-derived three-dimensional hierarchical porous carbon (LHPC) was developed in this work. The LHPC synthesized by a one-step carbonization-activation process using lignin as precursor and wet KOH an situ chemical activation agent. Compared with dry agent, the shows exfoliation effect on assisting formation of structure LHPC. H2O plays key role agent forming as-prepared high specific surface area 2109 m2 g?1 pores. When used electrode material supercapacitor, exhibits excellent electrochemical performances, including capacitance 254 F at 0.5 rate capability 59% retention 20 g?1. This study offers convenient practical approach to produce high-rate supercapacitors.
